The season in which the Easter holiday falls is usually filled with balmy temperatures, cool Gulf waters, and superb accommodation rates. Since Easter arrives just after the tumultuous Spring Break holiday, but before the humid, sweltering days of summer, April is one of the best times to visit South Padre Island for Easter. Of course, just like the rest of the year, it all depends on where you stay and play. Fortunately, Franke Rentals has the right Easter rental in South Padre Island for all of our guests, from cozy two-bedroom condos to spacious family homes.

South Padre Island Weather for Easter
If you want the boundless beach days of summer without the crowds, Easter is the perfect time to visit South Padre Island. The holiday arrives after the whirlwind excitement of Spring Break, ushering in a taste of the gorgeous summer days. The cool spring mornings warm up to pleasant afternoons hovering around the low 80s, rarely dipping below 70F. The evenings still retain the brisk ocean breeze of spring, with temperatures falling to the high 60s. It’s a good idea to pack a cozy sweater or windbreaker to keep you warm in the evenings, but chances are you’ll find the light winds refreshing after a day out on the beach.
Brunch by the Bay
The Easter holiday is usually synonymous with people in their Sunday best heading in and out of the local churches and parishes around the island. However, once the congregants leave their places of worship, an obligatory brunch stop is always on the itinerary. Thankfully, South Padre Island has a tremendous number of restaurants that specialize in this quintessential weekend meal. Furthermore, South Padre Island offers many establishments with Gulf-front views; try the Painted Marlin Grille, Café on the Beach, or Laguna BOB, just to name a few. Even if you don’t have a reservation for one of the more upscale dining establishments, there are many restaurants on Padre Boulevard that will accommodate you and your family.
If all of these restaurants are already filled up with Easter families during their Spring Break, we recommend heading to Yummies Bistro for a mouthwatering savory dish or sweet pancakes. Arguably it has the “best breakfast on the island!” Try the all-day breakfast or pancakes with eggs and sausage. We also love the filling eggs benedict dishes, home fries, and strong coffee drinks. You can’t go wrong with Chilled Island Coffee, a unique concoction of chilled coffee, coconut milk, and coconut syrup with some ice on a hot summer day!
Another great breakfast choice is Grapevine Cafe, a popular and relaxed joint that is a family-run spot offering casual breakfast, hearty lunch dishes, and caffeine-laden espresso-filled drinks. Try the Belgium Waffle with your choice of strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, apple cinnamon, banana pecans, or mixed seasonal berries. We also love the Huevos Rancheros or Chilaquiles Traditional dishes for a little bit of a Mexican flare to traditional brunch plates.
Our last top breakfast choice is Josephine’s Kitchen, a traditional American eatery that churns out homemade dishes to meet your hunger needs! Get rid of those hunger pangs with the all-day breakfast and lunch here, seven days a week. We recommend trying the Chorizo Gravy & Biscuits, Josephine’s Scrambler with your choice of fillings, or Croissant Benedict with sauteed spinach, ham, and two savory poached eggs.
Easter Events
Aside from the traditional Easter egg hunt, South Padre Island on this particular Sunday of the year lends itself to many outdoor activities. Since the temperatures are nearly perfect, many people choose the beach picnic as the ideal way to celebrate the holiday. Also, South Padre Island is known for its wealth of nautical activities and sports, so if this sounds like your cup of tea, don’t forget to check with some of the local outfitters in order to try windsurfing, jet-skiing, parasailing, and much, much more.
If you want to do some fun outdoor events that are not too crowded with other Easter-goers and spring breakers, then we recommend checking out some other spring attractions. Spring is the best time to come to the island since summer tourists are not here yet and you can still enjoy the sunny weather!
We recommend heading to the Spring Break stage at Clayton’s Beach Bar if you enjoy some live music, strong drinks, and a fun time! There are plenty of good vibes here for young couples and friends who want to party all day and all night.
If you come to South Padre Island with your family and you have young kids, we love going to Sea Turtle Inc. to see some of the turtles who are being rehabilitated back to being able to live on their own in the wild. You can teach your kids about the natural wildlife in the area and add some educational insight into your fun-filled vacation!
Plus, we love going to Laguna Madre if you want to catch some fish, glance at some marine wildlife in their natural habitat, or learn about how the locals live and catch their food. You can hire a professional to take you out on the boat for the day to enjoy the sunshine, go fishing, and have a unique experience while on the island.
Easter Egg Hunt
It’s not Easter without a traditional Easter egg hunt! Every year on Easter Sunday the island hosts the South Padre Island’s Farmers Market “Easter Egg Hunt.” The morning kicks off with the local farmers’ market and professional photos with the Easter Bunny. Then the egg hunt commences, with special prizes found within the colorful eggs. Bring the kids and get the Easter baskets ready! Located on the gorgeous bay grounds of The Shores, the Easter Egg Hunt is easily accessible when you choose our Easter rentals in South Padre Island. Many of our rentals are located right in The Shores community, from large family beach houses to cozy coastal cottages for younger families.
Family Fun at Gravity Park
With a wide range of family-friendly activities, South Padre Island is a favorite destination for a family beach getaway. Looking for heart-pumping action? Gravity Park is a must for kids and the young at heart. Race against your kids on the impressive go-kart track, take to the skies on the giant sky coaster swing, or experience the reverse bungee swing. Simmer down with a round of mini golf or enjoy a ride on the Ferris wheel, taking in the surrounding views of the island. Brimming with adrenaline, Gravity Park is your playground for family-friendly thrills on South Padre Island.
Dolphin Cruises
Slow down the pace and venture out on the waters with a dolphin-watching cruise. The warm waters of Laguna Madre are home to hundreds of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and other sea life. Learn about the local wildlife and ecology of the Laguna Madre as you cruise out onto the water. Watch as nets trawl in squid, crab, and sea urchins directly onboard as the crew shares insight into the aquatic life of this region. You’ll spot dolphins riding the wake of your boat all along the journey.
South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center
If you come to South Padre Island with your family, you and your kids will love this interactive and fun attraction. This beachfront area contains tons of natural wildlife, a birding boardwalk, and a sky-high lookout tower that provides expansive views over the island. This non-profit organization on the island is a peaceful and fun afternoon outing that can help you escape from the Easter crowds.
Plus, the springtime weather makes this the ideal day out. Instead of coming here during the height of the summer heat, this birding and alligator sanctuary is best visited during the Easter break. You can take one of the guided birding tours to learn more about nature, and wildlife, visit the alligator sanctuary or attend one of the local events.
Every person who comes here loves the alligators, five-story viewing tower, 3,300+ feet of the boardwalk for getting in your 10,000 steps per day, and guided bird walks. This sanctuary also offers weekly programs that you can join, such as the famous “Gator Talk” every single day at 11 am, 1:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.
