For your next beach getaway, consider booking a trip to South Padre Island. The island is located off the coast of Texas and is known for its soft, sandy beaches and for its sunny, warm weather year-round. Whether you’re planning a romantic vacation with your significant other or a trip with a group of friends, South Padre Island has some fun for everyone.
If you’re looking for a relaxing trip, spend your days laying out on the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico side of SPI or take a walk along the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, where you will have the chance to see egrets, ducks, and herons. Rent a kayak to get out on the water and paddle through the calm, warm waters of Laguna Madre. For a more adventurous vacation, rent a jet ski and zip around Laguna Madre or look over South Padre Island from 600 feet above the water on a parasail.
South Padre Island is known as an angler’s paradise and there are a few different ways to go South Padre Island fishing. Several marinas in town offer fishing charters where experienced anglers will take you to some of the best spots in the Gulf of Mexico.
However, there is also great fishing right off the shore of the island. The Queen Isabella Fishing Pier is a popular spot for fishing from the island. The pier is the original causeway that connected South Padre Island to the mainland before a new causeway was built in the 1970s. Today, you can walk along the pier, watch the fishermen, or try to catch your own fish. There is a small tackle shop on the pier where you can rent gear and buy bait. The pier is free to walk along, but if you are fishing you have to pay a small fee.
